Conference Objectives
The goal of ISSTD’s 2010 conference is to study and teach complex posttraumatic and dissociative disorders in a context that emphasizes a warm and collegial exchange of ideas and encourages relationship-building among professionals from around the world. The conference will closely examine the consequences of chronic abuse, neglect, and other forms of repeated trauma— especially the new diagnosis of Childhood Developmental Trauma Disorder which is being proposed for DSM-V. The conference will present theory, research, assessment, treatment, and other issues that relate to recovering from complex trauma, abuse, and neglect. Clinicians, researchers, and other interested professionals will learn about the most recent developments in the fields of trauma and dissociation. Preconference workshops meet this goal by providing: (1) Introductory workshops for relative newcomers to complex trauma and dissociation, and (2) Intermediate and Advanced workshops for experienced clinicians already working in this field.

Atlanta -- first established as the site for a new railroad terminus in 1837 connecting Georgia with Chattanooga, TN -- is now recognized as the Capital city of the Southeast. Transportation is still central to Atlanta’s identity as it is conveniently located with 80% of the U.S. population within a two-hour flight. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the most accessible airport in the world with nonstop service to 150 domestic and 95 international cities in 57 countries.
Filled with a wealth of attractions and activities, Atlanta offers something for everyone. Atlanta features exciting interactive venues, historical sites and beautiful performing arts facilities. Atlanta is home to the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, Atlanta Botanical Garden, High Museum of Art, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Zoo Atlanta, the Atlanta History Center and CNN Center where you can tour inside the studios. Explore each of these Atlanta travel locations at a discount rate with the Atlanta CityPass. Additionally, Atlanta boasts some of the country’s best (and local) restaurants, museums, shopping, and nightlife.

Want to attend a Master Class where you have Richard Loewenstein and can “Ask Anything,” or talk to James Chu on “How To Get Published in the Journal of Trauma & Dissociation,” or talk with Fran Waters about “Dissociative Children”? Grad Students (or grad students to be) can have a Student Conversation Hour with Steven Gold. Clinicians new to DID are invited to drop in on Don Fridley ‘s Conversation Hour: “Working with Your First DID Patient.” A detailed conference program with more information about these special events and more ill be available online late in June.
